Headlines 1/5/16

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a restful winter break and was able to spend time with family and friends.  I know that I appreciated having to time to connect with family and sleep a little later than usual!  A huge thank you goes out to all of the parents who volunteered their time and supplies for our winter celebration.  The students had a wonderful time, and it was the perfect way to end a semester filled with hard work.

I am looking forward to a successful second half of the year as we begin to prepare our students for their transition to middle school next year.  We spent some time this morning discussing how we can prepare mentally to become sixth graders.  As we work together I have no doubt that they will leave Archway ready to take on Prep next year!

Math: We will finish our unit on dividing and multiplying fractions this week and will spend time working with bar models and reviewing the unit.

Writing/Grammar:  We are now moving on to complex sentences and will practice writing and diagramming these.

Literature: Today we introduced our new literature study over The Secret Garden.  We will be learning vocabulary and practicing our comprehension skills as we read the book in class.   Please have your child bring their book tomorrow.  If you do not have a copy, please let me  know as soon as possible.

Science:  We will begin our unit over plants  this week and will practice taking notes in an outline form.

History:  Our next unit is the study of "The Glorious Revolution" in which we will be studying how monarchies changed in Europe during the 1600's.
