The Headlines 2/2

We had a wonderful last week of January! The class enjoyed an amazing field trip to the Chandler Center of the Arts where we learned more about the life of Harriet Tubman.  I hope your scholars shared with you the beautiful performance we were privileged to attend.  A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Lesnewski and Mrs. Armstrong for braving the school bus and helping us keep track of all the children!

Math:  Last week we completed our last unit in Singapore 5A!  We finished a short unit on ratios and using bar models to solve.  This week we will take the Galileo testing in Math today, tomorrow we will take our Unit 6 test and then will begin our first unit in Singapore 5B on decimals.

Literature:  We have made it through chapter 15 of Where the Red Fern Grows.  Some of our reading has been done in class and we also have been working in Literature Circles.  The students should be working on their 100 point projects both at home and at school.  We will be spending one class period a week working on them as well.  These will be due on Wednesday, February 11.  We also will be taking the Galileo test in Reading tomorrow.

Writing:  We have continued our study of verb jobs.  We are learning the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs and will be spending quite a bit of time on this during the upcoming week.

Science:   Our class did a great job on the Skeleton test, I was very proud of their hard work and study skills. We will be starting our unit on the Muscular system today.  This will be a fun unit with lots of hands on activities.

History:  Now that we are all experts on English rulers we will begin our next unit on Explorers.  We will start the week with a study of The Spice Islands and will take a look at the tools that made exploration possible.

  • ·         This message comes from Mr. Posner, our brave head of our Traffic:

It is important that all families have the correct blue or green placard in their vehicle. We realize that during the course of a school year, these placards are lost, misplaced, or wear down. The placards must be replaced when this occurs.

In an effort to reinforce our secure, student pick-up system, we would like to re-issue any placards that may be lost, destroyed, or have been created at home. We do require that the placards used are the ones created by Archway Arete. This is true for those who pick up in vehicles and walk up to the playground gate. If you are in need of any replacement placards for ones that have been lost or destroyed, or if you need to replace a non-Archway created placard, please email Mr. Posner at jposner@archwayarete.org. When e-mailing, please include the following information:

Student(s) last name and first name
Class Section, ie. 4A, 3B
Pick up time: 2:45 Archway Only or 3:20 Prep Sibling

Beginning, Monday, February 23rd, these are the only placards that will be accepted. If the vehicle being used for pick-up is missing a placard or has a different placard, we will ask that the driver come into the office to fill out a new one.

Thank you for your support and assistance in maintaining the highest level of safety for our students.
