It was so great seeing
everyone at the Fun Run and Family Picnic!
It was a beautiful day and we had a great turnout. Our class basket looked beautiful, and
delicious. A huge thank you to everyone
who donated and especially to Dee Ulano and Anita Brown for putting it all
together!
Math: The week
began by taking the Galileo testing in Math.
We then took a day to review and took the Unit 6 test on Ratios. After grading these I saw many people seemed
to rush through the test and I allowed them to make corrections in class with
no help. We have now begun our unit on
decimals. We took a few days to review
place value and will now move on to estimating, adding and subtracting. They will take a short quiz next week to see
how they are coming along in their understanding.
Literature: We made it through
the very emotional ending of Where the
Red Fern Grows. We had quite a few
tears shed as we read! The students have
until Wednesday, February 11 to complete their 100 point project. We also took the Galileo test in Reading. Our
next unit will be on Poetry and we will be studying the literary devices used
in Poetry. Please send the Laurel Harper-Wreath anthology with
your student this week. This was one of
the Classics to Keep books bought at the beginning of the year.
Writing: Last week we spent time learning about transitive and intransitive verbs,
the kids did a great job with these!
This week we will be combining our literature and writing times as we
not only read about poetry, but practice creating our own.
Science:
We began our unit on Muscles
last week and were lucky to have Dr. Litizia (Isobel’s mom) come speak to
us. She gave lots of great information
and the class really enjoyed listening to her.
This week we will be looking at the formation of muscle fibers and then
will start learning about the skeletal muscles.
History: Last week we
learned that exploration began due to the Europeans desiring fragrant spices
from the East and about some of the ancient tools used for navigation. We will continue to delve into the explorers
next week. We have begun making flash
cards with vocabulary in class. Bringing
these home to study will help make test preparation much easier!
Announcements:
·
As always there
will be tutoring after school for Math on Tuesday from 2:45-3:15 and Grammar on
Thursdays.

Friday, February 13th will be Great
Hearts Day. We will be celebrating the
virtue of friendship all day, with several activities in class and will have an
in-class celebration from 11:00-11:40.
If you would like to send in a treat for class that would be wonderful. I am hoping to have something salty, some
fruit, cookies or cupcakes, and drinks.
Just send me an email and I will put you down. Students are welcome to bring cards in for
the class. We simply request that cards
be homemade and that there is one for each child. I will send home a class list this week. Please let me know if you have any questions!

This message
comes from Mr. Posner, the brave head of our Traffic:
It is
important that all families have the correct blue or green placard in their
vehicle. We realize that during the course of a school year, these placards are
lost, misplaced, or wear down. The placards must be replaced when this occurs.
In an
effort to reinforce our secure, student pick-up system, we would like to
re-issue any placards that may be lost, destroyed, or have been created at
home. We do require that the placards used are the ones created by Archway
Arete. This is true for those who pick up in vehicles and walk up to the
playground gate. If you are in need of any replacement placards for ones that
have been lost or destroyed, or if you need to replace a non-Archway created
placard, please email Mr. Posner at jposner@archwayarete.org. When e-mailing, please include the following
information:
Student(s)
last name and first name
Class
Section, ie. 4A, 3B
Pick
up time: 2:45 Archway Only or 3:20 Prep Sibling
Beginning,
Monday, February 23rd, these are the only placards that will be accepted. If
the vehicle being used for pick-up is missing a placard or has a different
placard, we will ask that the driver come into the office to fill out a new
one.
Thank
you for your support and assistance in maintaining the highest level of safety
for our students.
