I hope everyone had a
wonderful three day weekend and enjoyed our beautiful weather. Great Hearts Day was a huge success. We created a class quilt using Acrostic Poems
we wrote for classmates, discussed the true meaning of friendship, enjoyed lots
of treats, and played Friendship Bingo.
We greatly appreciated all of the treats and cards that were brought to school.
Math: Last week we
discussed how to order decimals, as well as how to add and subtract. We also took a short quiz to assess our
learning. This week we will be learning
how to multiply and divide decimals and how to convert fractions to decimals.
Literature: We have enjoyed
our new Poetry unit and have read and discussed some beautiful poems. We have discussed many different elements of
poetry and have practiced analyzing poetry.
We will continue working on this next week. The students have chosen a poem that they will
memorize and research and should begin working on this.
Writing: Our literature and writing units have gone hand in hand. Last week we practiced how to use different
poetry elements, such as similes and metaphors.
We also wrote our own version of Jabberwocky. Next week we will begin writing a four
paragraph essay on the poem and author they have chosen. The research will be done at home, however
the writing will be done in class. We
have set a tentative due date of February 27th for this
project.
Science:
Last week we continued our
unit on Muscles. We have begun locating
and discussing the skeletal muscles. The
class also had the opportunity to assess their cardiovascular and muscular
strength by completing a jumping jack and push-up lab. We will finish muscles this week, with a plan
to test on Friday. The study guide will
be coming home today.
History: Our focus last
week was on Portuguese Explorers and on the travels of Christopher Columbus. This week we will be learning about Magellan’s
voyages and how England began to colonize.
We have been keeping a log of
our vocabulary and the students should be reviewing these note cards
daily.

Also, Spring Break will be here before you know
it and our Quintus camp is available!
Designed for parents who want or need options for their students during school breaks, Quintus Camp is an enrichment camp with time for play, learning, projects, and activities - all in a fun "camp" atmosphere that will appeal to your grade K-6 student. With flexible packages for parents (ranging from half-days to full and extended days), Quintus Camp is the perfect choice for school break programming. Quintus will run Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Archway Arete March 16th-20th.
If you have any questions, or need a copy of the registration
brochure, please email the Quintus Camp Director, Ms. Prestipino, at Quintus.Arete@GreatHeartsAZ.org
It is
important that all families have the correct blue or green placard in their
vehicle. We realize that during the course of a school year, these placards are
lost, misplaced, or wear down. The placards must be replaced when this occurs.
In an
effort to reinforce our secure, student pick-up system, we would like to
re-issue any placards that may be lost, destroyed, or have been created at
home. We do require that the placards used are the ones created by Archway
Arete. This is true for those who pick up in vehicles and walk up to the
playground gate. If you are in need of any replacement placards for ones that
have been lost or destroyed, or if you need to replace a non-Archway created
placard, please email Mr. Posner at jposner@archwayarete.org. When e-mailing, please include the following
information:
Student(s)
last name and first name
Class
Section, ie. 4A, 3B
Pick
up time: 2:45 Archway Only or 3:20 Prep Sibling
Beginning,
Monday, February 23rd, these are the only placards that will be accepted. If
the vehicle being used for pick-up is missing a placard or has a different
placard, we will ask that the driver come into the office to fill out a new
one.
Thank
you for your support and assistance in maintaining the highest level of safety
for our students.
