The
Headlines
Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed their week off from
school and was able to rest and relax.
We had a busy first day back and the students came with a positive
attitude to start the second quarter. I
am looking forward to seeing everyone at conferences this week.
Math: We are finishing
our second unit this week. We will
continue to practice dividing by a two digit divisor. This is an area that can be difficult for some
students so please let me know if you feel your child needs extra support. I will
be tutoring in math on Thursday of this week until 12:25.
Language
Arts: We have almost completed Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This week we will finish the book and
begin reviewing for a vocab and comprehension quiz. We will be planning a literature celebration
for next week, so be on the lookout for more information on that. We also completed our first 25 Latin and Greek
words. The students brought home their cards
today to begin studying for the quiz which will be on Friday. We will complete a review sheet in class
tomorrow as well.
Spalding: Although
it is a short week we will still have a spelling test on Friday. Please remind your child to make sure they
are writing each word three times with marking and rules.
Science: We have been reviewing the parts of a cell and their functions. This week we will be making cell simile
collages in which the students will use everyday objects to compare to cell
parts. This is an in-class project, but
may need to be completed at home.
History: We are enjoying learning about the Renaissance and
the history of Italy. We will continue
our study for the next couple of weeks.
Reminders:
This quarter we will be
focusing on staying organized and managing time wisely. I was a bit lax in some of my late work
policies, but this quarter I will be more stringent so that they are ready for
sixth grade.
Homework turned in late, but
on day it was due will receive 10% off, after that they will get half
credit. Please help your students by
discussing what homework they have each day.
All due dates and assignments are written in their agendas daily.
The Read-A-Thon is coming
October 31! This is a super fun day when
students and staff get to dress up as their favorite literary character from our
reading list while we enjoy literature together. We will be discussing this more in class
soon, but get your creative juices flowing!
